Another month, another UFC cut day. To the joy of many on the (now) 535 deep roster, this month was lighter than most. Only four fighters un-officially got the ax on October 1st, and of those, only 3 ever really had a contract at all. Nazareno Malegarie came off TUF Brazil 4 and faced fellow cast member Joaquim Silva for his first UFC fight. It’s become less of a standard lately, but the general norm has been, if you lose your first fight out of the TUF house and you’re not a finalist, then you get cut. That seems to be Malegarie’s fate.

Otherwise, the big surprise for many seems to be the release of Ramsey Nijem, whose UFC career was brought to an even 5-5 after what many consider a poor judging performance in his last bout. Elias Silverio seems to have gotten the boot following a two fight losing skid as well, this despite starting his UFC run 3-0. Jorge Oliveira round out the cuts, but no one’s surprised there as he went 0-2 and failed a drug test.

Not to be all doom and gloom, I’m talking signings as well, most particularly Mizuto Hirota and Teruto Ishihara, with lots of love for Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Danny Roberts. And maybe just a little interest in Damian Grabowski too.
