Last weekend’s UFC event in Japan featured a major upset in the middleweight division, which understandably shook up the rankings a bit. But this is the UFC rankings panel we’re talking about, so it should come as no surprise that it doesn’t really make any sense. When Uriah Hall knocked out the former number six-ranked fighter Gegard Mousasi, you figured he’d find his way into that area of the list, right? Well, he did crack the top 10, so that’s good.
But he’s still ranked below the guy he just beat. Yeah.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at the movement in each and every division.
P4P – Welterweight champ Robbie Lawler moved up to six, dropping heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum to seven. Joanna Jedrzejczyk also passed Johny Hendricks for the 14 spot.
Heavyweight – UFC Japan winner Josh Barnett moved up two spots to six, bumping Ben Rothwell and Mark Hunt to seven and eight respectively. The man Barnett beat, Roy Nelson, fell one spot to 12 with Antonio Silva taking over the 11 spot.
Light Heavyweight – Patrick Cummins moved up one spot to nine, bumping Quinton Jackson to 10. Corey Anderson moved up one spot to 14, with Tom Lawlor making his rankings debut at 15. That’s how thin the division is. One win gets you on the list.
Middleweight – Mousasi’s loss dropped him two spots to eight, with Tim Kennedy and Michael Bisping rising one spot each to six and seven. Hall makes his debut at ten. Rankings panel, you’re terrible at this. C.B. Dollaway and Dan Henderson both dropped a spot to 11 and 12, with Robert Whittaker dropping two spots to 14. Roan Carneiro dropped one to 15.
Welterweight – No changes.
Lightweight – Ben Henderson and Edson Barboza flip-flopped the six and seven spots, while Tony Ferguson and Myles Jury did the same thing with eight and nine.
Featherweight – No changes.
Bantamweight – Dominick Cruz is the new number one contender, bumping Renan Barao to two. Thomas Almeida moved up to nine, bumping Johnny Eduardo to ten. John Lineker moved up two spots to 12. Frankie Saenz dropped one to 13. Francisco Rivera moved up one to 15. Iuri Alcantara dropped three big spots to 15.
Flyweight – Joseph Benavidez moved into a tie with John Dodson for the number one contender spot. Ray Borg passed Wilson Reis for the 11 spot. Ali Bagautinov is slowly creeping back up the list, moving to 14 with Lineker still ranked at 15. Hey, panel guys and gals – JOHN LINEKER FIGHTS AT BANTAMWEIGHT NOW. PAY ATTENTION.
Women’s Bantamweight – Germaine de Randamie moved up to 14, bumping Jessica Andrade to 15.
Women’s Strawweight – Valerie Letourneau’s title shot is making her move up a bit. She’s in the nine spot now, with Maryna Moroz dropping to ten.
