On Saturday evening, Uriah Hall pulled of his most impressive victory to date. Coming into his fight with Gegard Mousasi, Hall was a substantial underdog. Over the course of the first round, Mousasi used his slick grappling to neutralize Hall and almost managed to lock up a rear-naked choke at the end of the round. The second round was all Hall though. In the opening exchanges of the round, Hall landed a sublime spinning heel kick, which he followed up with a flying knee and some ground and pound, until the referee called a halt to the fight.
Official result: Uriah Hall defeats Gegard Mousasi by TKO (punches) R2 0:25
What was the high point of the fight?
This fight was a tale of two rounds. In the opening round, Mousasi looked to be at his best, dominating Hall on the mat and nearly getting the finish. The second round however, provided the high point of this fight and it was the beautiful spinning kick from Uriah Hall.
Where do these two go from here?
Many felt that Hall was being lead like a sacrificial lamb to the extremely talented Mousasi. it may have taken Hall a disappointing first round to begin to throw with reckless abandon, but when he did Mousasi was no match for him. I feel that Hall should next face the man who he replaced on late notice, Roan Carniero.
This was a really disappointing loss for Mousasi. Mousasi seemed to be coming into his element over recent months, but his title aspirations fell to tatters against Hall. Next time out I would like to see Mousasi face UFC 194’s Yoel Romero if he loses to Jacare Souza.
Watch now, later, or never?
Watch this one right now. This fight was fun in both rounds and contained an amazing finish.
