Given the fact that Ronda Rousey is now a household name, it may be hard to believe that there was once a time where she was flat broke. So broke, in fact, that she had to use her blossoming judo skills to fund a nasty addiction problem: an addiction to Starbucks’ frappuccinos. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Rousey dished the dirt on when she used to fight grown men for money so she could buy Starbucks:

“I loved frappuccinos,” ‘Rowdy’ recalled. “Me and my friend, Jackie, after school we would walk over to the promenade. Jackie was like my Paul Heyman. She was like, ‘I bet my girl right here could beat you up for 10 dollars, or five dollars, or whatever.’ And some guy would be like, ‘Whatever, I’ll take that bet.’ (Transcription via Fighter’s Only)

Rousey went on to reveal her technique for defeating the much larger opponents:

“It would start, whoever the guy was I’d throw him to the ground and either give him a choke or an armbar. We’d get him to say that he gave up, then we’d take his money and go buy frappuccinos (laughs). Those were my first pro fights.”

While Rousey’s days of fighting for coffee are well over, the reigning champion does have a big battle ahead of her. On November 15th, Ronda Rousey defends her bantamweight title against Holly Holm in Melbourne, Australia at UFC 193.
