T.J. Dillashaw wants Demetrious Johnson super-fight to build his name

After UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson delivered another dominant title defense at UFC 191, talks of him moving up in weight to face bantamweight titlist T.J. Dillashaw in a superfight have become louder day by day. Johnson himself has expressed interest in the matchup already, and in last week’s edition of The MMA Hour, Dillashaw did so as well.

“What’s going to build my name the most is by beating Demetrious Johnson,” Dillashaw said. “I think he’s the best pound-for-pound in the world. I’d love that fight. I think he’s smart. … It’s a great fight, if they really want to put an offer that’s worth it, that would be great. I’d want to fight, I’d like to make it happen.”

Are we up for a potential champion-vs-champion fight? Dillashaw is already scheduled for another high-level matchup against former WEC and UFC bantamweight king Dominick Cruz, who has been sidelined by injuries for years and had to vacate his belt in 2012. Both will meet at UFC Fight Night 81, January 17 is Boston, MA.

Should Johnson dismantle another challenger until then — which is more than likely considering the pool of possible contenders — could he very well be facing the winner of Dillashaw vs. Cruz?
