It’s no TUF season without a rivalry between the opposing coaches. In every new installment of The Ultimate Fighter, the producers have the tough job to either focus on existing disputes — or create them.
Some fans found it suspicious that there has been an awkward backstage altercation between Conor McGregor and Urijah Faber only hours before they have been announced as coaches for the new season. In the first episode, that was televised last Wednesday, the cameras time and time again caught both fighters in little arguments and squabblings. But when the cameras are off, both got along very well, as Faber now revealed during a media day.
“I speak my mind, I love to fight, he speaks his mind, he loves to fight, and we don’t take crap. So that’s where things get heated up. But as a person, he’s a decent dude when he’s being real,” Faber said about McGregor.
Asked about the backstage incident, he assured: “Things get blown out of proportion. If we really had a real beef, there would have been punches thrown by him – not just me slamming him against the wall. It was kind of just what it was. It was weird.”
McGregor and Faber will not face each other at the end of the season. McGregor has a title unification bout against Jose Aldo sheduled for UFC 194 on December 12. Faber faces Frankie Saenz on the same card.
