The Ultimate Fighter 14 winner John Dodson fell short to flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson again at UFC 191 last Saturday. After losing a competitive five round clash with “Mighty Mouse”in 2013, Dodson climbed back up the 125 lbs. ladder and was granted with another shot at the title.

“The Magician” was unable to handle Johnson’s relentless pressure and unpredictable attacks in the rematch and was hit with another unanimous decision loss.

Fans on social media were quick to blame Dodson’s loss on his mindset heading into the bout. The 30-year-old became a father just a few days before his championship clash with Johnson at UFC 191, and, like any father, celebrated the birth of his newborn. The former bantamweight competitor was also seen celebrating his mother’s birthday the day before his big fight.

The Team Jackson’s fighter fired back at the critics in a post on Facebook shortly after his loss, per MMAFighting.

“Everyone, I lost the fight cuz I didn’t fight to my full potential. It’s something I have to live with for the rest of my life and y’all can bad mouth me all you want but do me a favor please keep my mom and my newborn daughter outta y’all mouth. They didn’t do anything to deserve your hatred. I do and I take responsibility for it. Thank you I appreciate your hate towards me losing. Have a nice day.”

Dodson also accepted full responsibility for the loss at the UFC 191 post-fight press conference (replay here). The Albuquerque local admitted he was outclassed by the technically superior champion and said there was nothing he could do to stop Johnson’s onslaught.
