Though current UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos has won most of his fights by decision in his career, he has proven to have KO power in some UFC outings before. And he plans to exhibit said power once again when meets Donald Cerrone when they rematch in December.
“I hit him with a good hook in that dropped him in the first round,” Rafael told Combate. “In this second opportunity, he won’t get up if I hit him again. I’m going for the knockout. I don’t work overtime in the Octagon. I’ll do my best, I’ll get ready to keep my belt. I’ll try and finish the fight as fast as possible.”
Dos Anjos’ best KO win to date is that of Ben Henderson in August 2014, which came on the heels of his TKO win over Jason High just a few months prior.
As for the doping accusations Cerrone threw in his direction, dos Anjos suggest “Cowboy” to look in the mirror before talking about anybody else since he tested positive in a test back in his WEC days.
“I didn’t have the displeasure of seeing Cerrone backstage at the ‘Go Big’ conference. But when you talk about somebody, you need to have some moral ground to do so. A guy who has tested positive before can’t talk about anybody. I have a clean career. Even parrots can talk, so let him say whatever he wants to promote the fight.”
Cerrone tested positive for a banned diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide) in his WEC debut against Kenneth Alexander on September 5th, 2007. The 1st round submission win was overturned to a no contest, as a result.
Rafael dos Anjos will meet Donald Cerrone for the UFC lightweight title on December 19 in the UFC on FOX 17 main event in Orlando, Florida.
