UFC 191 results recap: Andrei Arlovski edges out Frank Mir
Bloody Elbow 2.0 | Anton Tabuena

On Saturday night, Andrei Arlovski scored his sixth straight victory, in the co-main event of UFC 191 against Frank Mir. Coming into this bout, Mir was riding high from a knock out victory over Todd Duffee. Arlovski was looking to build upon the hype he generated with his knock out over Travis Browne. While this fight failed to deliver the fireworks that many expected, Arlovski managed to outland Mir on the feet and earn the unanimous decision victory.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Frank Mir

Official result: Andrei Arlovski defeats Frank Mir by unanimous decision (29-28 x2, 30-27)

What was the high point of the fight?

In this fight, Andrei Arlovski displayed a certain calmness, the sort of calmness that eluded him during his disastrous run. Over 3 rounds, Arlovski faced some adversity. Frank Mir’s boxing was dangerous, as usual but, Arlovski kept calm and utilized his superior speed to outland his foe. This fight wasn’t the best showcase of either fighter’s abilities but, Arlovski’s boxing was the highest point of this valley of a fight.

Where do these two go from here?

The Last Emperor may very well be on his way to the UFC. Andrei Arlovski is riding a six-fight winning streak and was doing great against Fedor Emelianenko, back in 2009 before he was caught and knocked unconscious. If Fedor does decide to sign with the UFC the fight that makes the most sense for him is Arlovski, who will undoubtedly be eager to avenge that bitter defeat.

Frank Mir is a legend, through his stint in the UFC Mir has done it all and held the most important heavyweight title in combat sports. There isn’t a lot left for Mir to achieve in the UFC, he has truly done it all but, as long as he is healthy, Mir will continue to fight. Expect Mir to face fellow veteran, Gabriel Gonzaga.

Watch now, later, or never?

Give it a miss. This fight failed to live up to expectations.
