The storyline of this fight is all about the complete dominance of Demetrious Johnson. To date the only Flyweight champion in UFC history, Johnson is making his 7th defense of the title here. He’s clearly THE dominant force in the division, but he’s fast established himself as one of the most dominant champions in UFC history – a win here moves him past Ronda Rousey to tie Jose Aldo at #4 on the all time list of most consecutive title defenses. Only Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, and GSP have more. That’s some elite company right there.

How did these two get here?
Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson is, as outlined above, a completely dominant champion. He was a talented title challenger in WEC and UFC at Bantamweight, then dropped down to Flyweight and is undefeated at 115 pounds. He’s cleaned out the division to the point that he is now taking a second lap through, rematching a man he convincingly beat the first time. With the superb coaching of Matt Hume behind him, Johnson has taken his natural abilities and fine tuned them to become a nearly flawless mixed martial arts fighter. He’s really something special – even if his PPV won’t draw. He’s also a very active champion – this will be his 8th title fight in less than three years. In that same amount of time, Jose Aldo has fought just four times.
John Dodson is a Greg Jackson product and a very well rounded 10 year veteran of the sport. He came to the UFC with a decent 11-5 record and won The Ultimate Fighter at Bantamweight (defeating future world champion T.J. Dillashaw in the finals). He immediately dropped down to Flyweight, and has done quite well, with his lone UFC loss coming against Johnson. He’s 3-0 since, including two via KO. In their first fight, he managed to drop Johnson with his fists – he hopes to build on that performance here.
