It’s been a busy news time in the international kickboxing world as of late, so here, we present a round up of the big recent news.

RETURN OF THE KING

Giorgio Petrosyan, once considered the Floyd Mayweather of kickboxing (for his skills, not his personality) was in action this past weekend. Petrosyan was the clear #1 in the world for years, but has been a bit in limbo since his 2013 loss to Andy Ristie. This weekend, he turned in a great performance, defeating Xu Yan in China. With that, he’s 3-0 since the Ristie fight, and looks to have truly regained his form. Let’s hope he gets back to Glory soon for the big fights there. Watch video of Petrosyan vs. Yan here:

CHANGES FOR DYNAMITE

Two changes to the upcoming Dynamite event on September 19, and one of them is a definite letdown. The recently announced Glory Featherweight title fight between champion Gabriel Varga and challenger Serhey Adamchuk has been cancelled due to a Varga injury. This would have been the first defense of this belt since Varga won it in April – shame to see it gone from Dynamite. In its place will be a newly announced Dynamite Glory fight, as Keri-Anne Taylor Melendez (2-1) faces Hadley Griffith (Debut). Taylor-Melendez is the wife of Gilbert Melendez – though this is a kickboxing fight, she plans to fight for Bellator in MMA in the future. Griffith is an MMA fighter with a 1-4 MMA record.

BIG FIGHT AT LION FIGHT

Lion Fight 25 is coming up, and the headliner is a great one. On October 23, Lion Fight will be headlined by Australian Muay Thai legend John Wayne Parr vs. the excellent Cosmo Alexandre. This is a fantastic fight between two highly skilled international Muay Thai fighters. It’s also an important rubber match, as the two men are 1-1, having first squared off in 2007 in Australia. Exciting fight – be sure to tune in to AXS TV to check it out. Also on the card is Jorina Baars vs. Martina Jindrova, plus fights from exciting Lion Fight mainstay Jason Andrada, Romie Adanza, Glory veteran Mike Lemaire, and Women’s MMA pioneer Kaitlin Young.

Before that event, Lion Fight 24 takes place September 25, and is headlined by Ky Hollenbeck vs. Richard Abraham.
