Former interim welterweight champ Carlos Condit was supposed to get a title shot against Robbie Lawler at the November stadium show in Australia. A thumb injury from the champion derailed those plans though, prompting officials to move the Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm bout headline UFC 193 instead.
“It’s obviously disappointing,” Condit told AXS TV after hearing about the news. “But this is something I’ve been through before and it’s really the nature of the sport.”
When asked if he would likely be staying on the Australia card against a different opponent, it looks like that wouldn’t be the case.
“At this point, nope, I’m not fighting on the same card, and nope, I haven’t been offered any other opponents. Nothing other than the news that Robbie is out,” he said. “We don’t really have a timeline at this point on his return, but we’ll see.”
“If it’s plausible for that to be my next fight, if he heals up in a decent amount of time, I would like to fight him. I was really really excited about this match up.”
We all were, Carlos. We all were.
