In a surprise announcement on ESPN’s 11 PM ET edition of SportsCenter, UFC president Dana White confirmed that Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm, originally scheduled to headline UFC 195 in January, is now the new main event for UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia on November 15th (November 14th in North America). Just last week, Rousey made her own announcement on ABC’s Good Morning America that her next title defense would be against Holm in Las Vegas on the UFC’s traditional New Year’s weekend PPV.

Tickets for this event won’t go on sale to the public until September 21st. It’s a definite blow for fight fans that the much-anticipated welterweight title fight between Lawler and Condit is not happening, but if the UFC’s stated goal is a crowd attendance of 70,000 fans at the Etihad Stadium, then a new main event featuring the biggest star in the sport will surely help the cause.
