Roy Jones Jr. (62-8, 45 KOs) continued his comeback trail on Sunday night at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Connecticut. The 46-year-old boxing great is in his 26th year as a professional, and while it’s very obvious that he’s a shell of his former self and is beating nobody of consequence, he’s at least racking up some KO wins in the process. Against 12-9-2 Eric Watkins, the former middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight champion put away his foe with his historically powerful left hand. It’s a good thing that Jones was able to come away unscathed and with another victory added to his historic career, because he actually has fights lined up against Danny Santiago (33-7-1, 19 KOs) on August 29th, and vs. England’s Tony Moran (15-6, 5 KOs) on September 12th for the vacant WBF Intercontinental Cruiserweight title. Basically, he’s the Donald Cerrone of boxing given his incredibly busy schedule as both an active fighter in addition to his role as HBO boxing analyst.

While some fans have long called for his retirement, particularly after this brutal KO loss to Denis Lebedev (coincidentally the last notable opponent he’s faced), Jones still marches on and genuinely wants to fight for a major cruiserweight belt. Ideally, if he wants to keep fighting, it’d be preferable for him to continue facing the Eric Watkins types of the boxing world for as long as he pleases, because any match-up against a legitimate top 5-10 cruiserweight probably ends badly for him. Until then, Roy isn’t going away any time soon.
