Glover Teixeira clearly watched Ovince Saint Preux’s fight with Ryan Bader. The former UFC light heavyweight title challenger used a solid grappling game to nullify the hands of OSP on the way to a third-round submission victory over the local fighter. It didn’t come easily though, as he nearly got finished in the first.
The initial stanza was pretty crazy. Saint Preux landed a hard body shot that stunned Teixeira early, then put him on the floor and beat him down. He looked to be close to victory, but Glover got a takedown of his own and moved right to mount. He looked for a choke but couldn’t get it, and after almost getting caught on the floor again, they got back to their feet at the end of the stanza. OSP looked gassed.
The two men started off throwing bombs in the second, but Teixeira got another takedown and worked from top position. He landed some hard body shots and generally just grinded away. OSP finally got up with 15 seconds left and unloaded some punches, but it wasn’t anywhere near enough to steal the round.
Round three was more of the same – early flurry by OSP, an oddly-light Teixeira slam, and solid work from Glover on top. He got to mount in the middle of the round and scored with some big shots. Saint Preux tried to roll over, but Teixeira caught him under the chin and put OSP to sleep.
The victory broke a two-fight losing streak for Teixeira, who ended a two-fight winning streak of OSP’s.
