Last month, the usually soft-spoken Frankie Edgar exploded on Twitter when he claimed that the UFC were ‘milking the cow’ in Conor McGregor after his victory over Chad Mendes at UFC 189. ‘The Answer’ was adamant in campaigning for an interim featherweight title fight with the Irishman in July, but the UFC decided to book McGregor as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter while Jose Aldo rehabilitates his rib.

It’s expected that Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor will lock horns shortly after the conclusion of the latest series of TUF: Team Europe vs. Team USA. Dana White has hinted that the long-awaited featherweight showdown may take place at the Dallas cowboys stadium in December. Frankie Edgar hasn’t got time to wait for that though.

The former lightweight champion revealed his plans to fight again before the end of the year when he spoke to MMAJunkie yesterday.

“I’ve got three kids, man,” Edgar said. “I’m trying to make some money. I’m not getting any younger. I want to challenge myself and keep improving. The best way to improve is to test yourself in the cage.”

“I don’t know. I’m going to leave that up to the UFC. I know a lot of guys aren’t really available, but I definitely do want to fight before the year’s out.”

The New Jersey-based fighter last fought at UFC Fight Night 66 where he scored a unanimous-decision win over Urijah Faber. Perhaps the UFC will look to match Edgar against top-ranked contender Chad Mendes to determine the next challenger for the featherweight title.
