Conor McGregor likes to predict the outcome of his fights, and often enough, his predictions are more or less accurate. Only a few days removed from his big interim title fight against Chad Mendes, at UFC 189, he took his betting habit a bit further and tried to wager $3 million with the UFC brass that he will knock Mendes out in the second round.
UFC president Dana White shared the story on The Jim Rome Show:
“You want to know how confident this kid is?” White asked. “I can’t even believe I’m going to say this, but, he told Lorenzo (Fertitta) and I the other day ‘I’ll bet you $3 million I knock him out in the second round.'”
And while Las Vegas native White is known to be a betting man, he understandably refused to take that bet from McGregor.
“I like to bet, I don’t know if I’m that willing to take that bet,” White said. “When I tell you how extremely confident this guy is in himself, it’s fascinating. He is a very unique, fascinating person to listen to. Fun to listen to, and fun to watch.”
In his last two fights against Dustin Poirier and Dennis Siver, McGregor seemed to have a knack for making precise predictions. He promised to knock Poirier out in the first round, and it took him unter two minutes. Two minutes was his prediction against Siver, when he needed two rounds — but still managed a dominant performance with an early stoppage.
McGregor and Mendes will square off this Saturday at UFC 189 in Las Vegas, NV.
