Ronda Rousey ‘never wanted to beat someone so badly’ as Bethe Correia

Bethe Correia’s suicide comment still doesn’t sit well with UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. A quick apology made via Twitter didn’t change that a bit. When asked by MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani about the status quo of their relationship, right after yesterday’s Reebok/UFC Fight Kit unveiling, Rousey’s mood changed within a split second.

“I don’t buy it at all,” she said. “There’s no way that she could know all these more obscure things about my life and not know about one of the most significant events (that) ever happened in my life. I don’t know if I’m more offended by what she said or her phony apology to save face for herself — which wasn’t even an apology. She just complimented herself, called herself humble and asked for forgiveness, I mean that’s not an apology.”

“No, this fight is becoming extremely personal to me and I never wanted to beat someone so badly in my life. And I’m definitely not gonna finish her off quickly, I’m gonna make sure that she remembers every second of that day.”

Rousey’s father committed suicide when she was eight years old. During the hype-up for their fight at UFC 190, Correia stated, she will demoralize the champion come fight night and hopes she “doesn’t commit suicide”. The Brazilian challenger apologized for the comment later and assured she didn’t know about Rousey’s father.

Rousey and Correia are scheduled to face each other at UFC 190 on August 1 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
