Following his dominant win at UFC 182, Hector Lombard’s UFC title aspirations came to an abrupt halt when he tested positive for designer steroid desoxymethyltestosterone in a post-fight screening. Not content to sit out the 1 year ban issued by the NAC, Lombard made a decision to compete at the highest level in the world of submission grappling, accepting an invitation to compete at the illustrious ADCC 2015 in Brazil. Over the weekend, Lombard entered the first of his planned ADCC warm-up tournaments and things didn’t go to plan for the Judo Olympian.
Hector Lombard stepped onto the mats at the Atlanta BJJ Championships with the intention of testing his skills against a decorated grappler in Guybson Sá. From the get go it seemed Sá had Lombard’s number. Over the first minute of the match Sá was able to stop Lombard’s takedown attempts with ease, when Lombard finally got the match to the ground he made a fatal error by immediately dropping back for a leg lock and getting his back taken in the ensuing scramble before tapping out to a rear naked choke.
To Lombard’s credit, Guybson Sá has built quite a reputation for himself as an unassuming underdog, having previously beaten Rodolfo Vieira and Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida as well as being a 12-time NAGA champion. It wasn’t all bad news for Lombard however, as following his early blip Lombard went on to win out 2 divisions later in the day. Hector Lombard will be looking to ramp up his ADCC preparation next month when he competes in the stacked Five Grappling tournament.
