The injury bug couldn’t have bitten much harder than this. It looks like the UFC 189 headliner between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and challenger Conor McGregor may be in jeopardy. Reports are surfacing that Aldo has suffered an injury in training. Further examinations apparently found that he’d fractured rib. No news yet as to whether this will cancel his bout with Conor McGregor, however it’s hard to see the fight going ahead with such a severe injury just two and half weeks out from the day. Combate correspondent Ana Hissa broke the news on Twitter:

Of course, all of this comes just a day after reports surfaced that Aldo had suffered an injury. A report which his camp denied outright:
just talk to @dedepederneiras and @josealdojunior aldo is NOT hurt. “It would be Mcgregor’s dream, but it’s not true” he said #ufc189

Apparently, those reports may have been jinxed the whole thing, as Hissa further clarified that Aldo’s rib injury happened just today:
Yesterday that was a rumor that aldo was injured. Not true. The injury happened today, tuesday morning, during sparring session

No word yet on what the UFC is going to do, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated, so stay tuned.
