It’s the featherweight bout everyone’s been talking about. Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor is the most anticipated 145 lbs. fight of all time, and for the first time ever on a UFC PPV, a lower weight class championship tilt will headline over the heavier fighters in Rory MacDonald and Robbie Lawler. Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald will serve as the co-main event for UFC 189 while Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor will feature as the main bill.
UFC president Dana White compared Aldo/McGregor to boxing’s ‘Fight of the Century’ in the lead up to the Mayweather/Pacquiao spectacle earlier in May and the head promoter isn’t taking his foot off the gas as UFC 189 draws nearer. In a recent Q&A on Periscope, Dana predicted the PPV numbers for McGregor/Aldo:
“They’ll do over a million,” Dana said. “It’s already tracking at over a million buys. Conor think he’s gonna do the biggest number ever, but to be honest and realistic, I think it’s gonna do over a million.”
Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor will battle for the featherweight title on July 11 at UFC 189 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
