Bellator teased a major announcement for today regarding one of their cornerstone events for this year, and if all goes according to plan, it will surely deliver for the fans. On September 19th at the SAP Center in San Jose, where Scott Coker’s Strikeforce first broke ground and rose to prominence, Bellator will have the following:
- A light heavyweight title fight main event between reigning champion Liam McGeary and challenger Tito Ortiz.
- A four-man, one-night light heavyweight tournament to determine the next title challenger. The participants are Muhammed Lawal, Phil Davis, Emanuel Newton, and Linton Vassell. Matchmaking for this tournament (plus reserve bouts) will be announced later. The semifinals will consist of two 5-minute rounds and the final will be the standard three 5-minute rounds.
- Three GLORY kickboxing bouts, featuring Paul Daley and Joe Schilling as two of the confirmed fighters in this special co-promotion bit. There will be a separate ring in addition to the Bellator cage in the arena configuration.

The name of this card, “Dynamite”, is in homage to the August 2002 PRIDE and K-1 co-promoted event that featured (among a host of other names) the legendary Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Bob Sapp showdown in front of 91,000 fans in Japan. The concept was so popular in its first year that more Dynamite!! shows were produced until 2010.
Tickets for the event go on sale next week and the broadcast will be on Spike TV. In case you’re wondering, September 19th is a Saturday night, and the UFC does have an event scheduled for that day, but it looks to be a Fight Pass event so it may be an afternoon event that avoids going head-to-head with Bellator-GLORY hybrid super card.
