Ben Rothwell had an impressive showing at his last UFC outing, as he quickly submitted Matt Mitrione on their co-main event bout. Apart from his bizarre post-fight interview, Rothwell also called out Andrei Arlovski shortly after the event.
“Now I think I’ve made a case for myself,” Rothwell exclaims. “Three fight win streak, three finishes. I think it’s time to make things happen against top guys.”
“The heavyweight championship happens next weekend. I think Stipe (Miocic) has built up a good case, and I think he deserves the next challenge, but I think Andrei Arlovski and I should dance,” he said. “He’s ranked fourth, and some people are already talking about him getting the title shot, but I think he and I should fight next.”
“I think he has a little bit of an injury and will be taking some time off, but I’ll be ready to fight him when he is.”
Rothwell now has finished Mitrione, Alistair Overeem, and Brandon Vera in succession. Arlovski on the other hand, has won 5 in a row, including stoppages over Travis Browne and Antonio Silva.
The pair had already fought in the past, with Arlovski picking up a KO win on the Affliction: Banned card back in 2008.
