Rafael dos Anjos would like to send a message to his doubters. After a surprising dominant win over former champion Anthony Pettis, the Brazilian conquered the UFC lightweight title and now awaits for a date to get back in the Octagon to face number one contender, Donald Cerrone.
In the meantime, however, he wants to make sure it wasn’t sheer luck that took him where he is today, as he said at the MMA Road Show.
“I want to tell everybody I’m not a champion because of luck. I work hard and I want to prove to everybody I’m Top 10 pound for pound fighter. I just want to prove I’m here to stay. I’m not here just for one title defense.”
In fact, Rafael is so sure his reign will be long, he already envisions himself taking superfights at welterweight in the future.
“I just conquered the lightweight title. I want to defend it a couple of times, then I’ll have some fights at welterweight in the future. As I get older, I will be tired of cutting weight, so I could go up and have some fights, maybe even have some superfights, against Benson Henderson, for example.”
