After his dominant win over Urijah Faber in the main event of UFC Fight Night Manila, former UFC lightweight kingpin Frankie Edgar believes a shot at the featherweight title is the only fight that makes sense for him next. As MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani reported on Wednesday’s broadcast of UFC Tonight, Edgar will accept no other opponent than the winner of July 11th’s title bout between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor.
Edgar faced Aldo for the belt in February 2013 and came up short in a close decision loss; the closest Aldo has ever been to a defeat since being the champion. Since then, Edgar went on to win four straight fights against top competition, and earned himself another chance against the Brazilian pound-for-pound king. However, brash Irishman Conor McGregor was the one who received the next title shot after beating Dennis Siver in January.
“We’re not going to let them step over us a second-time,” promised Edgar’s manager Ali Abdel-Aziz. According to him, Edgar will attend the Aldo-McGregor fight at UFC 189, and, should he not get his chance at the winner, start a “riot” at the Zuffa headquarters in Las Vegas.
