Every once in a while a fight for the ages happens. Dan Henderson and Mauricio Rua delivered one of those barnburners in their first encounter 2011 at UFC 139. Last year’s rematch couldn’t fully live up to the great expectations people had after their first bout, but was still an entertaining battle with a shocking turnaround finish. This fight against Shogun marked the last victory for Henderson, before suffering back-to-back losses against now-light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Gegard Mousasi. “Hendo” lost five of his last six fights. In his 44th career fight, at 44 years old, he takes on Tim Boetsch this Saturday, and needs to make a statement that he still has what it takes to fight at the top.
Boetsch is in a similiar position. He managed to win at least two of his last six outings, with the last two of them having been Performances of the Night, but “The Barbarian” also needs to prove that he can still hang with the big dogs. A win over Henderson could catapult him right back into the top ten, though.
