On Saturday night, “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit pulled off one of his most impressive performances to date by out striking Thiago Alves en route to a doctor’s stoppage. Coming into this fight, Condit looked to rebound from a career threatening knee injury he suffered against Tyron Woodley.
With Carlos Condit’s spectacular performance and an exciting main card, fight fans were treated to an entertaining night of fights from Brazil.
Official result: Carlos Condit defeats Thiago Alves by TKO (doctor stoppage), 5:00 of round two
What was the high point of the fight?
Carlos Condit looked the best he has looked in a long time, his movement looked unaffected by his serious knee injury and his striking was as sharp as ever. The high point of this fight was the picture perfect left elbow landed by Condit which completely shattered Thiago Alves’ nose.
Where do these two go from here?
While Carlos Condit will have an eye on UFC 189’s title fight between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald, it makes most sense for him to rematch Johny Hendricks next. When Carlos Condit met Johny Hendricks at UFC 158 the judges awarded Hendricks a close decision victory, it makes sense for the two to duke it out once more preferably in a 5 rounder to establish a clear number 1 contender for the belt.
I don’t envy Thiago Alves right now. He looked decent early, his movement was on point and he was throwing some of his powerful leg kicks, but Carlos Condit was simply the better man. Thiago Alves will likely be on the sideline for a while waiting for his nose to heal up but when he comes back a fight with Matt Brown or Erick Silva would be amazing.
Watch now, later, or never?
Watch this one right now. Carlos Condit looked simply sublime and put on one of the most vicious displays of pure Muay Thai that the Octagon has seen in a long time.
