John Makdessi may be considering retirement after broken jaw, laments lack of more weight classes

MMA is a tough business. Fighters put themselves through all kinds of hell for our entertainment and in hopes of someday winning a title. But for some, there comes a point where the end may no longer justify the means. It sounds like John Makdessi may be coming to that point. After a two round war against Donald Cerrone ended in a Broken jaw on the part of Makdessi, the Canadian lightweight took to his Facebook page to reflect on his career and on the possibility that an MMA career may not be the thing for him at this point.

Eddie Wineland went through a similar thought process after his recent loss to Johnny Eduardo and now he’s scheduled to fight again, against Bryan Caraway in July. So, this is by no means a definitive announcement from Makdessi. Still, it’s rare that we see fighters publicly taking stock of their careers, but after a serious injury like Makdessi suffered in his UFC 187 bout, it’s very hard to blame them.
