Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza changed his mind. After predicting a Vitor Belfort win over Chris Weidman so they could fight for the middleweight belt in Brazil, Jacare now claims the timing is better for the champion and expects Weidman to defeat “The Phenom” come fight night.

“Chris Weidman has a bigger chance of winning. His momentum is better, he has many consecutive wins and has defeated great fighters”, said Jacare to Globo Esporte.

He might have switched sides about the outcome of the fight, but when it comes to who should be next in line for the title shot, Souza is still a firm believer that he should be favored over Luke Rockhold.

“When people tell me Rockhold should go first, all I say is I have five fights in the UFC, all wins, nobody has knocked me out. I have always fought whoever the UFC put in front of me, I’m very highly ranked, even if I’m in second place. I won’t fail”.

Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort are scheduled to fight on May 23 at UFC 187 in Las Vegas, which will be headlined by light-heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson.

Souza is coming off a win over Chris Camozzi at UFC on Fox 15. He had been scheduled to face Yoel Romero in a title eliminator. No word yet on his next fight.
