Chael Sonnen has signed a contract as “expert analyst” with startup pro-wrestling promotion Global Force Wrestling (GFN). The acquisition has been announced yesterday at an official press conference in Las Vegas, by promoters Jeff and Karen Jarret.
Jeff Jarret is a former WCW and WWF pro-wrestler, who started his own promotion Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, after WCW has been purchased by WWE in 2001. Together with majority shareholder Dixie Carter and her company Pandy Energy, he lead the promotion to notable success and even a television deal with Spike TV, before leaving it in 2013.
GFN will begin taping shows on July 24, according to the press conference. No broadcasting partner has been announced, yet.
Chael Sonnen has been one of the UFC’s biggest draws until he retired last year, after two consecutive failed drug tests. One reason for his popularity has been his brash, entertaining on-screen persona, reminiscent of some of the all-time pro-wrestling greats.
