Presently a free man on bail, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones issued his first public comment since his hit-and-run in New Mexico on Sunday morning. Jones apologized to fans and said he had “a lot of soul searching to do” in a tweet sent out on his official account late Tuesday evening:
Got a lot of soul searching to do. Sorry to everyone I’ve let down.

Jones is currently charged with the felony of leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injuries after he crashed his rented SUV into the driver’s side of a pregnant woman’s car, leaving the woman with a broken arm. According to the official police report, eyewitnesses said that Jones left the vehicle but ran back to retrieve a “large handful of cash” before fleeing on foot. Jones turned himself in on Monday after an arrest warrant was issued by Albuquerque police.
