It was nothing but unanimous decision wins on the first three preliminary card bouts at UFC 186 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. Check out who was triumphant to kick off the evening:
Randa Markos (5-2) def. Aisling Daly (15-6) via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) – Women’s Strawweights
The preliminary card got underway with TUF 20’s Randa Markos defeating fellow castmate Aisling Daly by unanimous decision. Markos impressed early by landing solid strikes and threatened with arm-triangle attempts and an armbar in dominant positions. The Canadian threw the Irishwoman down with a throw from a standing headlock, but Daly reversed her and then ended the round having cut her face with an elbow. A late takedown into mount followed by persistently setting up the armbar sealed the win for Markos.
Valerie Letourneau (7-3) def. Jessica Rakoczy (1-5, 1 NC) via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) – Women’s Strawweights
Both women dropped from 135 lbs to make their strawweight debuts in Montreal, and it was Quebec’s Letourneau who came out victorious. She was taken down early by the TUF 18 finalist but turned defense into offense quickly by setting up a triangle choke, then a triangle-armbar, but Rakoczy escaped at the last moment and finished the round on top. Letourneau busted Rakoczy up with her stiff jab, which caused Jessica’s right eye to swell just about shut. The doctor checked in on her eye before round 3, but Rakoczy said she was fine and the fight continued. Letourneau rocked Rakoczy with a head kick early, but she recovered well and then started pressing forward trying to win the round and the fight. Ultimately, Rakoczy never got Letourneau down, was outstruck in the process, then taken down and mounted in the closing seconds.
Nordine Taleb (11-2) def. Chris Clements (12-6, 1 NC) via unanimous decision (30-27 x3) – Welterweights
Taleb’s pressure and takedowns were far too much for Chris Clements to handle. Clements spent the early portion of the fight off of his backfoot, and by the time he figured a way to get out of that spot he was repeatedly taken down and outgrappled by the TUF Nations fighter en route to a clean sweep on the scorecards. There wasn’t much for Clements to offer other than a brief kimura attempt and several kicks.
