It looks like word is getting around to the general public, that not only is Mayweather vs. Pacquiao a big deal in the sports landscape, but it’s an incredibly expensive one as well. What few tickets there are can’t be got for less than $1500 (and that’s for the cheapest ones). Hotels in Vegas are selling out, with room prices skyrocketing. And, if you just want to stay home and watch from the comfort of your living room, even that will cost you $100 if you don’t want to watch in standard definition ($90 if you do). There’s practically no way to see the fights on the cheap, legally… or at least there wasn’t.
Now, capitalizing on the event’s extreme popularity, DISH Network has decided to start it’s own marketing campaign. They’re giving away access to the PPV feed for free for new subscribers to their satellite TV service. It appears this offer extends to any of the basic DISH packages (except the Welcome Package), but does require a 12 month commitment.
It might be worth looking into if you’ve been thinking about changing you cable provider anyway, as the PPV costs as much as the first 5 months of their “Smart Pack” plan. Of course, it may not be the best move if you plan on buying UFC PPVs as well, as the UFC just announced that DISH is no longer carrying them. So, free Boxing PPV on one hand, lack of UFC PPVs on the other.
Mayweather vs. Pacquaio is set to take place May 2nd in Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand… as long as all the contract disputes stay to a minimum.
