The finishes keep rolling in at UFC on Fox 15. The first three fights of the televised preliminary card were all finishes, with two knockouts and a submission. Two of the winners will likely be moving up (or entering) the rankings, and the other just knocked off a TUF winner. Here’s how it went down.
Ovince St. Preux defeated Patrick Cummins by knockout (punches), 4:54 of round one
OSP did a good job of stifling Cummins’ vaunted wrestling early, popping up quickly whenever Cummins was able to get him to the mat. Both men were connecting with hard shots, but it was OSP’s sneaky uppercut that led to the end. With Cummins charging in, he sent him reeling with the shot and pounded him out.
Gian Villante defeated Corey Anderson by TKO (strikes), 4:18 of round three
The story for the first half of the fight was Villante’s leg kicks. Anderson didn’t check any of them and his leg was getting beaten up. Villante was likely up two rounds going into the last stanza, and Anderson was actually doing a commendable job with his striking before getting caught with a big right. The shot was so hard that he looked out on his feet, turning sideways just in time for Villante to nail him with another punch that put him down.
Aljamain Sterling defeated Takeya Mizugaki by submission (arm-triangle choke), 2:11 of round three
Sterling looked excellent in the fight, controlling Mizugaki with his wrestling and staying comfortably ahead on the feet. In the end he actually secured an arm-triangle choke from the bottom and had the squeeze to finish it, which might be the first finish of that nature in UFC history.
