Last week it was reported that Frank Mir and Todd Duffee was being targeted for a summer UFC event, and now we know the when and where for this heavyweight match-up. UFC Tonight‘s Ariel Helwani confirmed that Mir vs. Duffee will be a five-round main event atop UFC Fight Night in San Diego, California on July 15th. MMA fan Jordan Colbert posted the murmurs on Twitter earlier today, which included the UFC 189 match-up of Nate Diaz and Matt Brown.

Mir (17-9) was last seen knocking out Antonio SIlva in Porto Alegre, Brazil back in February, giving him his first victory since 2011. The former heavyweight champion had endured a brutal stretch of losses which included knockout defeats to Junior dos Santos and Josh Barnett.

Duffee (9-2) returned from a 2 year absence due to a serious medical condition (Parsonage Turner Syndrome) to KO Anthony Hamilton at UFC 181. He’s won his last 3 bouts, although it must be said that the trio of Neil Grove, Phil de Fries, and Hamilton places far below even a declined Mir. Regardless, Duffee is trying to position himself as a heavyweight contender, and he will get his wish of fighting Mir in the form of his first UFC main event.

UFC Fight Night: Mir vs. Duffee airs live on Fox Sports 1 and also includes a fight between lightweights Tony Ferguson and Josh Thomson. It’s the promotion’s first trip to San Diego since Jon Jones fought Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC on Versus 2 in 2010.
