Thinks aren’t going well for former UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard these days. “The Young Assassin” has fought just twice since getting bounced from Zuffa last March, going 1-1 for World Series of Fighting. But, that doesn’t really explain his current troubles. After defeating Gesias Cavalcante last July at WSOF 11, Guillard was supposed to fight Justin Gaethje for the promotion’s lightweight title. Unfortunately for him, he missed weight, badly, taking the title off the table. Then he lost. This time around, he’s hitting snags without even stepping in the cage.

Shortly after we reported that Guillard was unhappy with the way WSOF had treated him and that he’d “rather be in the UFC,” Guillard was pulled from his upcoming World Series of Fighting bout with Ozzy Dugulubgov. MMAJunkie reportsthat it wasn’t petty revenge that caused the card change, but the fact that Guillard didn’t show up for his medicals. A bit ironic considering that Guillard stated in his recent Submission Radio interview that he was going to “fight his ass off” on his way out the door to other promotions.

“Obviously, we would have liked to have seen Melvin compete at this weekend’s event,” WSOF President Ray Sefo told MMAjunkie. “But it’s Monday, four days away from the fight, and we don’t have his medicals, nor have we heard from him. He has not responded to any of requests from our PR team to help promote the show, and we alerted his management team that if we did not receive his medicals by 10 a.m. today, we would have no choice but to pull him from the card, and unfortunately, that’s what we’ve been forced to do.”

In Guillard’s stead, undercard fighter Lucas Montoya will move up to the main card and face Dugulubgov. World Series of Fighting 20 takes place this Friday, April 10th in Ledyard, Connecticut. Here’s a look at the current card:
