The UFC’s World Championship Tour, to promote UFC 189 (and most importantly Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor) has been an unabashed success. Fans seem to be loving the consistent press conferences, sound bites and back and forth between the featherweight champion and his boldest rival to date. Not to be forgotten in the midst of the spectacle is another UFC champion, set to defend his title at UFC 189. Robbie Lawler will be taking on Rory MacDonald. He spoke to MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani about how he feels the media tour is going, and more particularly about how fans are treating the featherweight champion:

Of course. I mean, this guy has one loss and this guy has fought the best of the best over and over and over again and the fans aren’t showing him any respect. This guy has put a lot of hard effort and his heart into this, and people don’t realize that he’s been doing this his whole life and he’s left a lot of years and miles in there. And he just gets after it every day. He’s a quiet guy and he just goes out there and fights, and he wins. And I just think that they should show him a little respect.

Lawler also talked about the warring personalities of McGregor and Aldo, and which one he finds most entertaining:

That’s what makes the world go ’round. People are different, that’s what’s awesome about this. Not everyone’s the same, and it makes it exciting. It’s two different guys, two different styles inside and outside the cage, and it’s going to be a great show.

Lawler also talked about his personal fight picks, as well as how he’s been spending his time lately. Check it out.
