Last week retired women’s boxer Laila Ali came out and said “no woman alive” could beat her in a fight including UFC champ Ronda Rousey.
“(Rousey’s) too much smaller than me anyways. She’s like the size of my daughter. My 3-year-old,” Ali said.
Rousey was quick to respond with an invitation to settle it in the Octagon. Ali quickly begged off saying she was retired, but that hasn’t stopped anyone from talking about the bout.
Now TMZ has got former UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight champ Randy Couture on the record saying he’d be willing to train Ali for the bout.
Couture thinks Ali would need to focus on ground and pound and training wrestling. Naturally the Natural would be the perfect coach to bring her up to speed.
The 37-year-old Ali hasn’t boxed since 2007. She fought as a super middleweight (160 pounds) and has never fought mixed martial arts. This fight will never happen but will continue to be talked about as long as Rousey seems to be unbeatable.
Rousey won her most recent bouts in a combined 30 seconds crushing Cat Zingano at UFC 184 two weeks ago. Other much discussed hypothetical matchups for Rousey include Invicta Featherweight champ Cris Cyborg and a man. Only one of those bouts is at all likely to happen.
No word on whether or not Couture will offer to coach UFC men’s bantamweight champ T.J. Dillashaw for that bout.
