UFC flyweight Ian McCall is not in agreement with Joe Rogan when it comes to women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. Rousey, who defeated Cat Zingano is just 14 seconds at UFC 184, is clearly one of the more dominant champs in the UFC, but Rogan went far enough as to say that she could beat 50% of the men in her weight class. McCall responded to that in a recent interview with Rick Lee, saying that he’d ‘throw her on her head’ (transcribed by David St. Martin of MMA Fighting):
“They say all these comparisons to her fighting men,” said McCall. “Even like Joe [Rogan]. I need to have a conversation with Joe about it because she’s not beating up a man. I’m sorry, it’s not going to happen.”
…
“A good man will not lose to Ronda Rousey,” said McCall. “I could put a judo gi on, [she’s] an Olympian. You’re not throwing me. It’s not going to happen. I will throw you on your head. Pretty simple. And you weigh more than me.
“I can’t compartmentalize it. It doesn’t make sense to me. I know it’s all talk. They compare her to [former heavyweight boxer Mike] Tyson. She’s dangerous, she’s good. I get it, but it’s just silly.”
I can understand saying that he might be able to out-strike her, but outclass her in Judo? Uh, sure.
McCall also disputes Rousey’s ranking on the pound-for-pound chart, where she currently sits at number seven:
“Ronda’s definitely not the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world,” said McCall. “She’s the best woman on the planet. That’s cute. Cool. Well, we’re doing men things. Different. I get it, you’re really good and all but to compare her to Jon Jones, Jose Aldo, Demetrious Johnson or Cain Velasquez … come on. Any of the champions. It’s a different world. It just frustrates me.”
McCall (13-5-1, 2-3-1 UFC) is coming off a loss to John Lineker at UFC 183. He is currently ranked at number three at flyweight in the official UFC rankings.
