Changes are afoot for The Ultimate Fighter. As the pseudo-reality show enters their 21st season, they are going to try out a new format – camp vs. camp. The camps in this case are both based in Florida – American Top Team and the Blackzilians. The UFC formally announced the show, which had been rumored for weeks, at a press conference in Los Angeles ahead of UFC 184.

The full details haven’t been released yet, but this is what we do know. The show will debut on April 22nd. It will feature ATT welterweights vs. Blackzilian welterweights. The winning team will apparently win $500,000. They aired a trailer for the show at the press conference, which included some trash talk between ATT head Dan Lambert and Blackzilian head Glenn Robinson.

The show has been airing in 2005 in North America, and has spawned a few international seasons as well. It has generally followed the same format – the coaches are big-name UFC fighters, and they lead a team of prospects through a tournament. Usually the coaches fight each other at the end, but not all time.

I’m guessing the show will still feature prospects and not established UFC fighters, but it should be an interesting dynamic either way.
