Earlier today, boxing fans around the world got their years-long wish when it was announced that Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao was finally made official. The bout will take place on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The estimates of the purses are ranging between $200-250 million for total payout between the two pugilists, but that tidbit of information hasn’t made its way to the media waves just yet.

If you, like so many hardcore boxing fans around the world, were trying to score a room at the MGM, you’d best start looking around for another hotel because it’s already sold out. As a matter of fact, it only took 15 minutes to sell out, as reported by USA Today. All week long, Mayweather has appeared to be on the edge of making an announcement, and as a result, room rates for that weekend at the MGM have fluctuated and as of yesterday, were sitting at $615/night for May 1 and 2.

With only a 17,000 seat capacity, the fight itself will likely sell out as fast or faster than the hotel rooms did, forcing the thousands of ticketless boxing fans that will descend upon Las Vegas that weekend to seek a closed circuit viewing opportunity at another casino. Rumors are already swirling that the PPV price, much like the room rates, will be expensive, possibly to the tune of $99.95, so it stands to reason that alternative viewing options at other casinos will likely be pricey, as well.
