Former WEC champion Urijah Faber, recently appeared on Team Alpha Male Radio and talked about a wide range of subjects, including his preparation for his UFC Fight Night: Manila main event slot against Frankie Edgar and most notably, his admiration for Conor McGregor’s skills.
Conor McGregor has generated a lot of fanfare in his short UFC career. The Irishman’s charms and exciting style have earned him a deal with Reebok and helped him grow a loyal army of fans, but it hasn’t been all positive for McGregor. His outspoken nature has also drawn alot of criticism and rivals.
Speaking candidly on Team Alpha Male Radio, Faber talked about McGregor’s level of popularity in Ireland and also discussed how Irish men look ‘mangled’.(transcript via Independent.ie)
“He’s got a whole nation of people that have nothing else to cheer for.I think it’s fun, this sport needs guys like Conor. Conor’s not just a talker he’s a great fighter. He’s a guy that backs up what he says and he’s making headlines. Especially for Ireland, I’ve seen some hot Irish women but all the dudes over there are pretty mangled looking. Conor, just not having freckles and bright red hair makes him like a super male model over there. The ability to not have a face full of freckles and red hair steps his game up tremendously in Ireland. They’ve got a hero and he’s good.”
Conor McGregor has remained uncharacteristically quiet in light of the comments, teammate and fellow Irishman Cathal Pendred, was eager to return the insult.

While Faber’s statements are likely to cause outrage in Ireland, they were likely said in jest. Urijah Faber next enters the octagon on May 16, in the main event of UFC Manila, whereas Conor McGregor will next be in action when he fights for the featherweight title against Jose Aldo.
