Remember when that UFC Fight Night 61 main event between Rashad Evans and Glover Teixeira got scrapped in January with Teixeira citing a knee injury? Well, looks like the Brazilian wasn’t the only one having problems with his knee.

As MMAFighting.com reports, Rashad Evans underwent another surgery on his previously repaired anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in January. The former champion suffered a torn ACL last February, prior to a scheduled UFC 170 bout with Daniel Cormier. He underwent surgery later that month and has been rehabilitating since. In December, he realized that his knee rejected the cadaver tissue from the last operation.

According to Evans, he heard a pop during training only a couple of days before Christmas, but decided to go on as planned with the fight in February. When Texeira pulled out though, Evans underwent a second surgery to correct the previous one, they used a piece of his patella tendon to fix the knee for good.

Evans will likely be out for another six months and hasn’t been active since November 2013 – a tough pill to swallow for the 35-year old.

“I decided I won’t let this beat me”, he told MMAFighting. “I won’t be held down by this. I decided I will get 100% healthy.”
