Miesha Tate explains why she can’t fight Sarah Kaufman right now

Miesha Tate is coming off a big come-from-behind win over fellow former title challenger Sara McMann at UFC 183 earlier this month. After the fight, she revealed that she suffered a fractured orbital bone in the bout. That didn’t matter to Sarah Kaufman, who has been calling out Tate for a fight over the last few weeks. Kaufman has now been booked to meet Alexis Davis at UFC 186 in April, so Tate took to Instagram to explain why she isn’t able to fight her any time soon:

I wasn’t going to bother posting a picture of the break in my orbital bone BUT since Kaufman referred to me as a coward and said I turned down the fight w her repeatedly, I figured I would post the proof. I have not been offered a fight at all because I am on injury suspension. I have always stepped up, never backed down from a fight. I don’t think anyone can argue that I am a coward. I am not cleared to fight (or train) yet but trying to heal as quickly as possible. I want to fight Bethe Correia (the undefeated, tough, relevent fighter) when Im healed up but that sure as HELL doesn’t make me scared of Kaufman

Tate (16-5, 3-2 UFC) was handed a long medical suspension after UFC 183 due to the injury. She’s to have no contact until March 3rd, and her minimum no contest suspension date is March 18th if she gets cleared by a doctor. If she cannot get cleared, she is suspended until July 31st.
