Anderson Silva has broken his silence for the first time since reports of him failing his January 9th drug test surfaced, and he seems set determined to clear his name.
Silva’s failed test came as a massive shock to many as Silva has always held a staunch anti doping stance. Ripples were sent throughout the mixed martial arts community on Tuesday when the Nevada Athletic Commission released the results to a pre-fight drug test which showed Anderson testing positive to drostanolone and androstane, both of which are banned substances under the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Speaking to Sherdog.com, Anderson stated that he is out to clear his name :
Here’s the Bloody Elbow Tete-a-Tete crew, to weigh in with their thoughts on Silva’s drug test
‘I’ve been competing in this sport for a very long time. This is my 19th fight in the UFC. I have been thoroughly tested many times and have never had a positive drug test, I have not taken any performance-enhancing drugs. My stance on drugs is, and will always be, the same. I’m an advocate for a clean sport.I’m consulting with my advisors right now to explore all of my options and intend to fight this allegation and clear my name,” Silva continued. “I will not make any further comments until my team advises me to do so.’
With Anderson firmly on the defensive, it will be interesting to see how the results of secondary tests turn out.
Prior to the news of his failed drugs test Anderson Silva was celebrating his UFC 183 victory against Nick Diaz, which was his first win since October 2012.
