MMA Roundtable: Is Anderson Silva’s MMA career over?
Bloody Elbow 2.0 | Anton Tabuena

On Tuesday, February 3rd, news broke that shook the MMA community to it’s core. The UFC released an official statement to announce that former middleweight champion Anderson Silva had failed a pre-UFC 183 drug test for the anabolic steroid Drostanolone. Shortly thereafter, NAC commissioner Bob Bennett announced that Silva had also tested positive for a second steroid, Androsterone Androstane. The tests were carried out on January 9th, but the preliminary results were not made public until February 3rd, the day after the fight.

For his part, Anderson Silva is claiming his innocence early on. He’s asking for lab confrimation of the tests, claiming that he would never “tarnish his image.” Unfortunately, as Cung Le found out, when news like this breaks, the damage done can often be permanent, no matter the eventual results… And Le never even tested positive for anything. That’s why the Bloody Elbow staff has sat down to wrangle with the question…

What’s next for Anderson Silva?
