With the Diego Brandao vs. Jim Hettes fight getting cancelled at the last second, the Fight Pass portion of the UFC 183 preliminary card was down to two fights. Here’s how they went down.
Thiago Santos defeated Andy Enz by TKO (strikes), 1:56 of round one
Enz tried to use his reach advantage early, throwing strikes at range and pressing forward. Santos was able to parry well though, and cracked Enz with a hard body kick. After a few more seconds he landed another one to the ribs, which hurt his opponent. He dropped him with some head strikes and pounded away until the referee was forced to stop the fight. The win improved Santos’ UFC record to 2-2, while Enz dropped his third bout in a row.
Ildemar Alcantara def. Richardson Moreira via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
The fight was pretty dull overall. The first round saw Moreira pull Alcantara on top of him, straight into mount. He was able to reverse position but didn’t do much of anything with it. Alcantara controlled the second round with some striking, including a hard head kick. The third round was pretty uneventful other than the referee warning Alcantara for grabbing the cage. I thought Alcantara did enough to take all three rounds, but the judges saw it a bit closer. Still though, Alcantara moved to 4-2 in the UFC with the win.
