It’s long overdue, but the UFC is finally hosting an event in the Philippines.

It’s a country with a highly educated fan base crazy about combat sports. After years of teasing an event and packing venues for simple open-workouts with MMA stars, fans in Manila will finally have that long awaited UFC event.

As BloodyElbow.com has learned with multiple sources close to the situation, the UFC has already finalized a date for their first trip to Manila in the first half of 2015. The top mixed martial arts organization has also formed a partnership with the SM Mall of Asia Arena, which will serve as the venue this upcoming event and for future shows down the road.

Ken Berger, the EVP of UFC Asia, is currently in the country and will be officially announcing the Philippine event Thursday morning in Manila. Although the event has been long rumored to be happening this May, the press conference will be held to officially announce the final date along with the said venue partnership.

Sources also inform us that bouts on the card hasn’t been finalized just yet, and will likely not be part of the impending announcement. That said, local Filipino UFC fighters such as Mark Eddiva and Roldan Sangcha-an from Team Lakay are expected to be on the line up.
