Mairbek Taisumov and Mirsad Bektic were huge favorites going into their respective UFC on Fox 14 bouts. They lived up to the hype. But the hyped heavyweight prospect on the card most definitely did not. There was also a flyweight fight that opened the card with some fireworks. Here’s a quick rundown of the first four fight on UFC on Fox 14.

Neil Seery defeated Chris Beal by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27

Seery pressed the action for the whole fight, wearing down his bigger opponent with big strikes and some good grappling. Beal started well and arguably took the first round. The second round was a back-and-forth scrambling battle with some hard strikes thrown in. But Beal gassed in the third and Seery took over, insuring his victory.

Viktor Pesta defeated Konstantin Erokhin by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-27)

Erohkin was effective early, landing some hard shots that sent Pesta reeling. But that lasted all of two minutes, until Pesta started to wrestle and Erohkin started to get tired. The rest of the fight alternated between them staring at each other and Pesta working from top position, basically just doing enough to not get stood up. It was not a good fight.

Mirsad Bektic defeated Paul Redmond by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-25)

This was absolute domination, and the two 30-27 cards were very charitable. Bektic took Redmond down and kept him there in every round, busting him open with punches and putting it to him. He was never really all that close to a finish, but the bout was completely one-sided.

Mairbek Taisumov defeated Anthony Christodoulou by knockout (punches), 0:38 of round 2

Another totally one-sided fight. Taisumov tenderized his Greek opponent’s leg with brutal leg kicks in the first round, and also connected with some damaging punches. Early in the second round Taisumov blocked a takedown attempt and busted Christodoulou up on the ground with punches until he went out.
