The drug test results for UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones have come back. After some general speculation about potential PED use in the wake of his positive test for cocaine, the Nevada State Athletic Commission says that Jones’ tests all came back clean. MMA Fighting’s Marc Raimondi has the details:
All of the UFC light heavyweight champion’s drug tests have come back clean, Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) executive director Bob Bennett told MMAFighting.com on Tuesday.
Jones’ post-fight carbon isotope ratio (CIR) test reportedly returned clean last week. And Jones was found to be clean of street drugs in a separate test taken after UFC 182 on Jan. 3, too. Those results came back this week. Bennett said he would have the official documents out to the media within the next 48 hours.
Any potential controversy swirling around Jones’ post-fight drug test results stemmed from the results of his out-of-competition testing, which were released to the public earlier this month. One of the major findings (besides the cocaine metabolites) was the abnormally low T/E ratios. Former BE writer Brent Brookhouse wrote two weeks ago, “CIR testing would be able to determine if the testosterone in Jones’ system was synthetic or natural.”
This news essentially confirms that you won’t be seeing Jones stripped of his belt solely for the cocaine use, which the athletic commission later admitted shouldn’t have been in their out-of-competition testing.
As a decidedly minor note to pass along, the NSAC also confirmed that Daniel Cormier’s drug test results came back clean.
Bloody Elbow will post the official post-fight results documents for Jones as soon as it becomes available.
